• UConn School of Nursing Clincial Instructor, Desiree Diaz, received a 2008 Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing from the Visiting Nurse Association of South Central Connecticut on May 8, 2008. Nurses throughout the state are given this award to recognize outstanding commitment to the nursing profession.
  
  
• Dean Bavier presented Longevity Service Awards to UConn School of Nursing faculty and staff on Monday, April 21, 2008 in recognition of their dedication and longevity of service years to the State of Connecticut.

• Dr. E. Carol Polifroni, associate dean for Academic Affairs and Special Initiatives, was named co-chair of the Design Team for the Hartford Public High School (HPHS) Nursing Academy, responsible for the curriculum of the new nursing academy. Using a smaller learning community model, the nursing academy will focus on academic preparation for success in collegiate programs of nursing education. The Nursing Academy is one of five new academies created in HPHS, beginning in Fall 2008.

• Dr. Elizabeth Anderson, associate professor, received the 2007 Josephine Dolan Award for Excellence in Nursing Education and Dr. Deborah McDonald, associate professor, received the 2007 Virginia Henderson Award for Outstanding Contributions to Nursing Research during the CNA award event held on October 29, 2007. These prestigious Diamond Jubliarian Awards are the highest honor that the Connecticut nursing profession can bestow on one of its own.

• Dr. Sherry Bassi, assistant professor, received a 2007 Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing from the Visiting Nurse Association of South Central Connecticut on May 3, 2007. Nurses throughout the state are given this award to recognize outstanding commitment to the nursing profession. Dr. Bassi also received the 2007 Community Service Award from the Connecticut Department of Higher Education.

• Dr. Cheryl T. Beck, professor, received the American Journal of Nursing (AJN) 2007 Book of the Year Award in the Nursing Research category for her book, Nursing Research: Generating and Assessing Evidence for Nursing Practice. • Dr. Regina Cusson, associate dean and professor, was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi and named a 2006-07 Fellow of the AACN Leadership Institute.

• Dr. Michelle P. Judge, assistant professor-in-residence, received Special Recognition for mentoring a doctoral student from the Embassy of the United Kingdom of Bahrain in 2006.
